Rings are the one piece of jewellery people hesitate to buy online, and the reason is always the same: what if it doesn't fit. It is a fair worry. It is also a five-minute problem to solve with things already in your house.
Method 1: The paper strip
The most reliable method without any tools.
- Cut a strip of paper about 5 mm wide and 10 cm long. Paper, not thread — thread stretches.
- Wrap it around the base of the finger you intend to wear the ring on. Snug, but not tight enough to indent the skin.
- Mark where the end overlaps, then lay the strip flat and measure to the mark in millimetres.
- That measurement is your finger's circumference. Match it to the chart below.
Method 2: Measure a ring you already own
If you have a ring that fits the right finger well, measure the inside diameter across the widest point with a ruler, in millimetres. Multiply by 3.14 to get the circumference, then use the chart.
Method 3: The printable chart
Search for an Indian ring size chart, print it at exactly 100% scale — this matters, so check "actual size" and not "fit to page" — and place an existing ring over the circles until one matches the inner edge.

Four things that change the answer
- Time of day. Fingers swell through the day and in heat. Measure in the evening for a size you can wear comfortably at any hour.
- Temperature. Cold hands measure smaller. Do not size on a winter morning.
- Band width. A wide band needs roughly half a size more than a thin one to feel the same.
- Knuckles. If your knuckle is noticeably larger than the base of your finger, size to slide over the knuckle — then a slightly snug fit at the base is what stops it spinning.
